Link Wray 1929-2005

Frederick Lincoln 'Link' Wray Jr (May 2, 1929 – November 5, 2005) was a rock and roll guitarist most noted for introducing a new sound for electric guitars. Before Rumble, electric guitars were used to produce clean sounds and jazz chords. Wray made a new sound by drilling 4 holes into his amp, thus inventing fuzz-tone, distortion and noise. He also pioneered the power chord - invented the bloody thing, some say....

You MUST have heard at least one of his tracks is you've seen any of the following films; Desperado, Pulp Fiction, Independence Day, 12 Monkeys, This Boy's Life, Blow, Johnny Suede, and Pink Flamingos.

And dont take OUR word for it that this guy was a great:Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan, Pete Townshend, Neil Young and Bob Dylan have all cited him as an influence. 'Nuff sed.

Not much information exists on this band - suffice to say they've been recording since 2000, under the name Satan Stomping Caterpillars, seemingly becoming Black Moth Super Rainbow circa. 2003. Right so, she writes an amzing album of truly beautiful music back in 1972, called Just Another Diamond Day. The press misunderstand it and she wanders off in the huff and decides music is pish and she'd rather raise a family. Fair enough - she wouldn't be the first to ditch music. She may well be the first person to wait 33 years between 1st album and 2nd album though. Last month she released Lookaftering which follows on from the first album as if it was written 2 years later. I'm sure she's going to end up enjoying much more aclaim this time round than she did 35 years ago. The only question is ... will we get it, this time? I hope so.
